Employee Spotlight: Andy Liao, Business Development Asia

At ViewTrade, our team is critical to our success – and we want to give them the spotlight they deserve! Check out our interview with Andy Liao, Business Development Asia, and stay tuned for more employee profiles in the future.

What was your first job?

In my first job, I was a sales representative for a broker in Taiwan. That was almost 20 years ago. There was no “fintech” terminology back then, but I learned about finance through exam prep and learned about databases, data analysis and agile development from a paid workshop. Since joining ViewTrade , I have taken a course to learn robotic process automation (RPA). The Taiwan team has a regularly Monday workshop as well, so we’re always learning and keeping each other sharp.

What excites you about financial technology today?

In financial technology today, there is so much opportunity to take the innovation occurring in one region and bring it to another. Dollar/fraction trading is a good example – these are very popular among investors in the US, and we bring these capabilities to Asia, making new opportunities available to a rapidly growing retail market.

Where do you see financial technology and finance evolving in the next 5-10 years?

We will see companies learn to use new tools such as AI, RPA and data analysis to improve internal processes or create better user experiences. The possibilities here are endless – in time, users may be able to use these tools to create their own AI-powered productivity enhancements, without really having to write any code. Just imagine how fast we could all do business if everyone had an AI secretary. SaaS is another major trend – most users around the world will demand that most products and services be subscription-based.

What would people be surprised to learn about you?

I’ve worn many hats over the course of my career, so I’m sure there’s something. I was the founder of a website and led a full-stack team to make frequent updates. I built the ViewTrade Asia team and our internship program in a five-year span. Finally, I am a big believer in working tirelessly, but also in combining that with a healthy family life. Balance those two things, and you’ll set yourself up for success and fulfillment.
