What was your first job?
At 15 I started working at my small town’s only gas station, which was also a deli and video rental store. But I consider my first career to be the 2 years I spent as an Elementary School Teacher. I absolutely loved it.
How did it prepare you for your career in financial technology?
My first few jobs taught me how to wear many hats at once, deal with people from all walks of life and to be able to adapt at a moment’s notice to whatever was thrown my way. Pursuing my Elementary Education degree gave me formal training in educating and providing information in a digestible way. Being in the classroom taught me a great deal of patience. All of these lessons have been tremendously helpful in my current career.
What excites you about financial technology today?
I love seeing such a big increase in accessibility to the markets. From fractional trading to extended market hours, it’s easier than ever for people to trade.
Where do you see financial technology and finance evolving in the next 5-10 years?
I’m sure AI and machine learning will start having a bigger impact but I believe these advancements will also hi-light how important the human connection is as well.
What would people be surprised to learn about you?
In my spare time, I am also a certified health coach and love working with people to help them feel better and improve their lives through healthier habits. I also love working in my garden and doing little home improvement projects around our home.
